Presents the results of a pilot study examining the relationship between negative life events & depression in a sample of 171 elderly people. Researchers found that not only recent stressful life events correlate with elderly depression, but life events that occur throughout life appear to be related to depression in late life. Results provide support for the idea that depression in the elderly is not (only) age related & may have implications for treatment & prevention programs. (19 refs.)
