Befrienders International of Hong Kong found that their volunteer suicide prevention service was rarely accessed by those aged 60 or above. The group’s concern to reach this high-risk group resulted in studies that examined the profile of the suicidal elderly and the reasons for suicide attempts. Finding that many suicide deaths could have been prevented, they advocate increased awareness among the elderly’s carers &the general public as the best strategy to suicide prevention for the elderly.
