Training Curriculum on Suicide Detection and Prevention in Jails and Lockups

This revision of a 1988 manual is for law enforcement & jail administrators, & their staff. It addresses custodial care, supervision, & liability concerns relating to suicidal behaviour in jails & lockups. Suicide prevention begins at the point of arrest. The key to averting jail & lockup suicides is a prevention program with: staff training, intake screening, communication between staff, human interaction between staff & inmates, & the administrator’s initiative.
