This article provides a history of the criminal status of suicide in British common law, using forfeiture of lands & seizure of chattels as evidence of criminal status. A discussion of the criminal nature of suicide in British common law is included, supplemented with British legal cases. The definition of suicide in British common law is compared to relevant Roman laws. Legal treatment of accessories to suicide is also presented. (52 refs) (SC)
