Brief Home-Based Intervention With Young Suicide Attempters and Their Families

An intervention package for suicidal youth & their families is described. Features of the package are that it is short-term (only 5 sessions), focused, intensive, & home-based. The first of the 5 sessions focuses on a psychosocial assessment. Session 2 explores each family member’s understanding & perception of the suicidal episode. The third session examines dysfunction in family communications. The last 2 sessions explore & develop the family’s problem-solving skills & ideas of adolesence.
