One of the most difficult clinical challenges facing social workers is suicidal behaviour in clients with borderline personality disorder. This article reviews the various types of suicidal behaviour exhibited by these clients, including self-destructive behaviour & overt suicide attempts. Frameworks are offered for understanding & managing both kinds of behaviour. (56 refs.)
