The author argues that despite many years of political action, the issues of suicide have not adequately been addressed. The author points to new research as showing the extent to which psychological distress & disturbances exist among young people. The author points out new challenges that youth face that may account for such high levels of psychological distress. The article also points to new youth attitudes about life as an indication of the current mental health of youth. The article concludes that more attention should be given to socioculture features of modern society. (AK)
