This study investigates suicide by self-poisoning in the United Kingdom. Admissions to a dedicated district poisons treatment unit in South Glamorgan between 1987-1988 &1992-1993 were analyzed. Self-poisoning rates increased in both men & women, with male rates showing a relatively larger increase. The highest age-specific rates in both periods were found in15-19 year-old females. Statistics regarding specific poisons, antidepressants & mortality rates are included. (52 refs) (SC)
