Medically treated parasuicides in a Norwegian county were monitored for more than six years & variables predicting repitition of parasuicide were indentified & studied. In patients with no history of parasuicide, sexual abuse (both sexes), alcohol abuse, & psychiatric problems (females only), were significant predictors of repetition. Concludes that predictors of repetition are highly dependable upon the stage of “suicidal career” the patients are in.
