This study examined psychiatrically disturbed adolescents’ history of exposure to suicide attempts, completions & other deaths in relation to attitudes about life & death. Adolescents who experienced the suicide of a friend or family member reported a weaker attraction to life & a stronger attachment to death than those lacking this experience. Attempted suicide resulted in the same attitudes. A comprehensive history of loss & assessment of current attitudes toward death are necessary.
