In this article the author states that when an individual commits suicide, that person is trying to blot out psychological pain that stems from “vital” thwarted psychological needs that the person is willing to die for. A Psychological Need Form is provided as a tool to rate others, to indicate how their needs have influenced their views of themselves & their world, even- or especially- during a suicidal crisis. The form provides a vehicle for understanding callers in crisis & how to help.
