This paper describes psychosocial characteristics of children & young adolescents who had experienced a recent suicidal death of a parent or sibling. 16 families with children aged 4 to 14 years were evaluated for psychiatric symptoms & social adjustment. These survivors were found to have a higher rate of internalizing symptoms & poorer school adjustment than a standard community sample. Early detection & intervention can minimize the risk of these problems experienced by child survivors.
