This study consisted of 65 suicide attempters admitted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, from May to December 1994. Six significant predictors found were; number of years since first suicide attempt, physical abuse, legal problems, number of drugs used currently, substance-induced mood disorder, & major depression. The data suggests that vulnerability to mood effects of substance abuse may lead to serious suicide attempts despite less extensive psychiatric problems.
