Long-term follow-up in the National Institute of Mental Health, found a 1% suicide rate in the first year & a .4% to .5% rate in each subsequent year of treatment with the antidepressant fluvoxamine. Over the course of 12 years of follow-up, 5% of males & 2.7% of females completed suicides. The findings also suggested a protective effect of fluvoxamine upon the risk of suicidal ideation.
