Panic disorder & depression share well-defined disturbances in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function, & serotonergic neurotransmission. Suicide attempts had been made in 20% of subjects with panic disorder compared with 12% of patients with panic attacks, 6% of subjects with other psychiatric disorders, & 1% of subjects with no disorder.
