This paper describes the results from interviewing 20 individuals who attempted suicide in London. Several issues emerged regularly during interviews, these were: loneliness; the sudden ending of an intimate relationship; and serious psychiatric illness. Forty-five percent of interviewees, who chose the railway as their method, knew someone else who had completed suicide in this manner.
