This paper examines the differences in mental disorders, recent life events, & other characteristics between urban & rural completed suicide in a random sample of 229 cases in Finland for the years 1987-88. Substance abuse, personality disorders & psychiatric comorbidity were found to be more common among urban suicides. Urban suicides were often preceded by a recent separation, Rural victims tended to have lacked a close companion & to have had physical disorders.
