This article discusses the benifits and detriments of the serotonin based anti-depressant drug Floxetine. 12 patients with diagnosed severe depression, suicidal ideation and alcohollism were tested with Floxetine for a period of 8 weeks. Researchers noted a significant improvement in suicidal ideation and a decrease in alcohol consumption after treatment. However there have been concerns that too high a prescribed dose could in fact aggravate suicidal ideation and/or behaviours.
