This article discusses the need for research into elderly depression, an often overlooked condition hidden by other multi symptom health problems. Depression among the elderly is thought to be caused by factors such as losing social status through dependancy on others, chronic pain, vitamin depletion, and the expense of treating mental health problems. In this article, clinicians recommend research needs for the 7.8% of elderly patients who are diagnosed with severe mental health disorders.
