This article documents suicidal ideation in those afflicted with acute stroke. People suffering with dehabilitating illness are ofen at a much higher risk of completing suicide. When asked about suicidal thoughts, 20 (6.6%) patients out of 301 had actively planned suicide and displayed related symptoms such as depression, social withdrawal, and self blame. However this study does not include past suicidal behaviours and was generally restricted to patients of low socio-economic status.
