The purpose of this research study was to inform the law enforcement community & policy makers of the type of gun incidents & firearms encountered by police. A review was undertaken of the Winnipeg Police Service’s firearm incident files, concentrating on firearm homicide, firearm robbery & firearm suicide. Information was collected on characteristics of individual incidents, type of firearm & the legality of the firearm involved. Attributes of the accused & the victim are described.
