This report is a 23 year follow-up of 75 fatalities and 24 deaths by suicide following cholesterol level-lowering trials. Two subjects were prescribed cholesterol level-reducing drugs during the course of the study. The study did not examine the relation among low-density lipoprotein/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, or the high-density lipoprotein/low-density lipoprotein ratio and the study end points, because lipoprotein measurements were not made at the baseline examination.
