This is a collection of editorials concerning a previous article “Costs associated with gunshot wounds in Canada in 1991”. Most of the editorials disagree with the articles’ method of allocating dollar amount to suffering and loss of enjoyment. Jules Sobrian MD, argues, when a typical, nonproductive, chronically depressed patient succeeds in committing suicide after repeated attempts, there is little or no productivity loss to society, and a considerable saving in mental health care costs.
