This editorial discusses two reports regarding provision of mental health services in England. Among the recommendations is a national network of community mental health teams, consisting wholly of professionsls, to provide all aspects of health and social care. The need for a 24-hour, 7-day a week provision which is easily accessible, should go a long way in reducing the number of people involved in suicide and homicide. An estimated 300,000 people experience severe mental illness in England.
