In this letter to the editor, the author agrees with Dr. Butler’s call for increased education in palliative care and increased incorporation of palliative care principles into medical practice. The lack of trust in long-term care, the quality of the end of life in the nursing home, and pain management are discussed. The growing acceptance of Kevorkian best-selling books on how to kill oneself, and recent court decisions are all evidence of that distrust.
