Physicians generally do not support performing euthanasia. Studies in Montreal and elsewhere in North America found that the majority of physicians do not support legalizing euthanasia or administering it given a request from the patient or a relative. Canadian doctors fear legalizing euthanasia because of a lack of safeguards and they refer to a report outlining the problems in Holland where euthanasia is legal. Emphasis should be placed on education in patient care rather than euthanasia.
