This article examines if current data indicates that the problem of youth alienation is a public health issue. The article points to gay & lesbian youth appearing to have a higher risk for depression & suicide. The article notes that this increased risk is largely due to the isolation & alienation that can accompany entrance into the gay or lesbian lifestyle. The article discusses a number of initiatives at local, regional, & national levels that aim to provide increased services for such youth. (AK)
