A Lesson in Prevention

This article describes development of the Adolescent Suicide Prevention Program started in 1982 in Virginia & includes an initial evaluation. After the first year, suicides were less than half the number occurring the year before the program began. The article discusses program organization, training for school administrators & teachers, parental involvement & student involvement (peer counselling). People more than money created this prevention program which has become a national model.
