This article addresses aboriginal peoples & suicide, specifically in the Inuit community. The article begins by noting the high rates of suicide in the Inuit community & provides an account of the authors’ visit to the Pangnirtung, Baffin Island. Reasons for the high rates of suicide in the Inuit community are examined in the author’s account of his travels, such as sexual abuse & the loss of the Inuit way of life. The author concludes with the need for suicide research be more culturally sensitive, & the importance of listening to the needs of other cultural groups. (AK)
