Imitation Effect in Suicidal Behaviour: Subway-Suicides in Vienna (1980-1990)

This proceeding remarks on the subway suicide rate from 1980 to 1990 in Vienna. It discusses possible associations between the increase during 1987 & extensive media coverage of these subway-suicides. A summary of the media guidelines introduced at this time regarding coverage of suicide that may have been responsible for the corresponding decrease in subway suicides is presented. (SC)
