Various data & methods were triangulated to examine the relationship between alcohol & suicide. Control variables included divorce & unemployment. Ecological & time-series data for Sweden were used. Findings indicated that a good third of the male suicides were attributable to the alcohol factor. The impact of unemployment was also found to be fairly strong with the indirect effects being at least as important as the direct ones. No relationship was found between divorce & suicide. (68 refs.)
