This article is targeted towards a general audience, & contains information on suicidal behavior in children & adolescents. The article reviews the demographic characteristics, background, precipitating factors, methods, & motivations involved in adolescent suicidal behavior. The article summarizes three centrally identified issues in the prevention of suicidal behavior in children & adolescents: the identification of ‘at risk’ youth, efforts at primary prevention, & attempts at secondary prevention. The author concludes with why more research is needed in this area of research. (AK)
