Countertransference Issues With Difficult Suicidal Patients
Neafsey J P~~Jones F A~~et al
Countertransference issues between caregivers & suicidal patients are described. Interviews on these issues were conducted with 12 experienced clinicians. 83% reported borderline patients in emergency making manipulative suicidal threats presented challenging countertransference problems. Nearly half also felt that antisocial patients & substance abusers who deny suicidal intentions after an attempt, presented problems. Countertransference is associated with particular patient characteristics.
