This presentation reports on a study that examines a dependent variable (suicidal ideation), controls for the effects of parent-adolescent & general family conflict, & examines the mediational effect of both parenting variables & self-derogation. Subjects: 473 students, grades 5 to 10, Knox County, Tennessee. Results revealed self-derogation to be the strongest predictor of adolescent suicidal ideation. Parent-adolescent conflict had both direct & indirect effects on suidal ideation.
