This presentation discusses the unique stressors that a homophobic society creates for gay & lesbian adolescents, noting that isolation, a sense of difference, & rejection by family & friends are frequently precipitating factors for increased suicide risk. Data on suicidal behaviour among gays & lesbians is provided. Effective interventions that address the needs of this population are suggested.
