This presentation shows that the blending of the non-survivor professional & a trained suicide survivor/facilitator has proven to be a successful formula for support groups. Each role is separate & defined but can be symbiotic. The survivor is the “expert” in the actual experience of personal loss, in coping with the grieving process, & resolving issues surrounding grief. The professional is the “expert” in the area of mental health & stages of grief, & ensures that group process is respected.
