This article reports data on the suicide rates of young people aged 15-19, comparing the rate per 100,000 in 1991 to the rate in 1970. Actual numbers for 1991 are also provided. The report covers 23 countries in 3 categories (higher than 10, 5 to 10, & less than 10 per 100,000). Compared to 1971, suicide among young people in Hungary declined by almost 50% while in the former Czechoslovakia, the rate fell by nearly 60%. Of the major industrialized powers, only Japan recorded a substantial fall.
