This article reviews the literature, reports on the incidence of suicide in children & adolescents (1958 & 1962 data), & notes that etiology factors are many & varied. It discusses depression in youth, warning signs, & the difficulties of assessing suicidal behaviour. It suggests that suicide in individuals under 20 years of age is a real & serious threat, & one that is usually under empahsized. Treatment of suicide attempts & suicide prevention issues are briefly discussed.
