This article provides an overview of the highlights of the 1995 conference which included the founding of the Israeli Assoiciation for Suicide Prevention, and presentations on the biological basis of suicide, technological advancement, & chaos theory. Although the importance of preventing suicidal behaviour in the young was accepted by all, the manner of doing so provoked dispute. The key issues was whether suicide-awareness programmes in schools & colleges have a beneficial or adverse effect.
