This article discusses an ethical question for hotline agencies: whether an agency is obligated to report a caller’s crime to the police, & if one did, if this is a breach of confidentiality. For adjunct hotlines under supervision of physicians, etc., this is not as much of an issue. However, independent hotlines have different legal rights. Seeley recommends certification by professional organizations for aiding hotlines against most legal actions. (7 refs.)
