Nurses are in direct contact with people who are at risk of engaging in suicidal behavior & can make important contributions to suicide prevention work. One important way they can contribute is to improve their ability to carry out sensitive, comprehensive & systematic assessments of suicide risk. This requires an up-to-date awareness of developments in suicidology & a grasp of the range of factors that may influence a person’s decision to resort to self-destructive actions.
