Homicide, suicide & child abuse are leading causes of mortality in the child & adolescent population. The article addresses each category & groups them into intentional injuries (abuse & suicide) and assaultive injuries (homicide). The epidemiology of adolescent suicide, suicide methods & prediction of suicidal tendency including a discussion about risk behavior are included. Prevention is claimed to be the most promising avenue by which adolescent suicide might be lowered.
