This study examined patterns within patients with multiple suicide attempts. Prescription drugs were almost always used in overdose attempts (96%) & the time between events was often short. Most people choose a method for suicide & repeatedly use the same method (physical vs overdose). The majority of repeat attempts occurred among young people & alcohol use was especially high when physical methods were used (69%). Identification of these trends could lead to effective intervention. (10 refs)
