Suicide as a Felony: an Update

This brief article notes that suicide remains on the books as a felony at common law in two states – Kentucky & South Carolina. Kentucky law explicity addresses individuals who abet a suicide. 26 states have laws which prohibit assisting suicide. Attempted suicide remains an indictable misdemeanor in North Carolina.
