Robert Stewart, Viscount of Castlereagh, was born in June 1769 in Dublin, Ireland. Castlereagh began his political career when he was appointed Keeper of the King’s Signet in 1797. By 1805, Castlereagh had advanced to become Secretary of State for War & the Colonies. In 1810, he retired from the government but returned in 1812 as Foreign Minister. Throughout his adult life Castlereagh had suffered from depressive episodes. In August 1822 he committed suicide. (1 ref.)
