The Canadian perspective on youth mental health was examined using data from the Canadian Mental Health & Illness Survey. This survey evaluated youth’s knowledge, attitudes & behaviours related to mental health & illness. Results suggest that Canadian youth are experiencing significant levels of distress, with females & older adolescents at higher risk. In spite of this, limited reliance on traditional mental health systems was reported. New models for youth mental health services are discussed.
