Alberta Mental Health Services’ response to a referral of a potentially suicidal client is given. The referral source is asked to give information on the client. If the client agrees to counseling, treatment is provided. If services are refused, nothing more is done. Clients are assessed for degree of risk; if they are unwilling & viewed as high risk, other interventions will occur. Suicide risk assessment includes identifying stressors in their lives. Confidentiality rules are outlined.
