This booklet discusses the effect that aircraft disasters have on mental health. Aircraft disasters affect not only passengers and crew on the plane, but survivors of the victims, health care professionals, & those in the area of the crash. The booklet notes that the stress reaction to aircraft disasters are similar to those of major natural disasters. “Disaster syndrome” may occur, which includes depression. Ways of treating survivors & crisis intervention programs are described.
