As suicide/suicidal behavior is high among alcoholics, it is important to investigate their association. Separation often precipitates suicidal actions of alcoholics. In suicidal alcoholics it was found that a greater number were separated from their biologic/foster family in adolescence. Many alcoholic suicides also had a major depressive disorder. Factors that affect suicidal alcoholics include access to alcohol, culture, family situation, & their cognitive perception of self. (44 refs.)
