Lester calculated rates of completed suicide from World Health Organization data & discharged parasuicides from Stark et al’s 1994 data. The male suicide & parasuicide rate increased from 1982 to 1992. The female suicide rate decreased during this period but the parasuicide rate increased. Further investigation is called for into the decreasing suicide rate among women in Scotland. (1 ref.)
